Fees

Consultation fees, quotations and legal fees

Understanding the difference between paying for an initial consultation and receiving a quotation for legal work.

Consultation fee

A consultation generally covers the lawyer’s time spent understanding the matter, identifying legal issues and explaining possible next steps. It does not necessarily cover later legal work.

Quotation or estimate

A quotation or estimate addresses anticipated work and costs for a defined scope. The final amount can change if the scope changes or unexpected work is required.

Ask what is included

Ask about the scope, VAT, disbursements, changes in complexity and whether a written fee agreement will be provided.

Important: This is general information, not legal advice. Laws, procedures and deadlines can change, and the facts of an individual matter must be considered.
